John Poje, 87, of Oneonta, passed away on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 at his home.
He was born February 17, 1925 in Draga, Yugoslavia, the son of the late George and Mary (Jeschlnik) Poje.
John served in the German Army during WWII and was a POW.
On August 5, 1950, John married Frieda Schmidt in Feffernitz, Austria. Frieda predeceased him on February 28, 2008.
John owned and operated Poje's Body Shop in Oneonta for many years.
John was hardworking and never rested. When he had others do something for him, he would always let them know the correct way of doing it. To his family he was considered "Mr. Fix-it". If it needed fixing, he could do it. He loved tending to his woodstove and burning wood, his fruit trees and planting and growing garlic. But most of all he loved spending time with his family. He always enjoyed the family dinners, barbequing and conversing with them about the old days. He also loved his cat.
John is survived by his four children, John and Virginia Poje of Mt. Sinai, Erika Poje of Schenevus, Joseph and Kelly Poje of Otego and Danny Poje of Laurens; eight grandchildren, John, Melissa, Stephen, Amy, Alyssa, Evan, Lakin and Lynzi; one great granddaughter, Lexi; as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by one brother, Frank Poje.
