Mabel Colyer, 95, of Gahanna, Ohio and formerly of Oneonta died Friday, January 6, 2017 at Tuscany Gardens Nursing Home, Pataskala, Ohio.

She was born April 3, 1921 in Sidney Center, the daughter of John and Anabel (Youngs) Long.

Mabel graduated from Sidney High School Class of 1938.

She met her husband, Wesley Colyer of Oneonta at the Sidney Hillcrest Roller Rink and they married in 1939 in Windsor, NY. They lived in Oneonta before moving to Unadilla in 1959.

Mabel Colyer, 95, of Gahanna, Ohio and formerly of Oneonta died Friday, January 6, 2017 at Tuscany Gardens Nursing Home, Pataskala, Ohio.

She was born April 3, 1921 in Sidney Center, the daughter of John and Anabel (Youngs) Long.

Mabel graduated from Sidney High School Class of 1938.

She met her husband, Wesley Colyer of Oneonta at the Sidney Hillcrest Roller Rink and they married in 1939 in Windsor, NY. They lived in Oneonta before moving to Unadilla in 1959.

During the WWII years she worked at the Defense Plant in Sidney. At war's end, she worked at Bresee's Department Store and then Pondolfino's Dental Office in Oneonta. In 1960 she returned to the Bendix Plant in Sidney working in Quality Control until her retirement in 1981.

Mabel enjoyed many summers of swimming, fishing, cookouts and card playing with family and friends at Rideau Lake in Canada. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, keeping her home and the company of family, friends and neighbors. She was a member of the Lutheran Church of Atonement of Oneonta.

After the death of her husband in 1992 she moved to Mill Creek Estates in Otego. She did more traveling with her son and daughter-in-law to California and trips to Florida, the Caribbean and Alaska and with her sisters and nephew to Florida and Georgia. Also, trips on Eastern Tours with friends.

Mabel is survived by her sisters, Frances Cooke of Sidney; a brother, Joseph Long of Pine City, NY; She is also survived by her dear friend and daughter-in-law, Molly Colyer of Columbus, OH; her step grandson, Brad and Mary Corey of Pickerington, OH; step granddaughter, Lynn Anne Gibson of Los Angeles; step great granddaughter, Shannon Cliff of Cincinatti, OH; step great grandson, Ryan Cliff of Los Angeles; and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, her dear husband, Wes and her beloved son, John. Also her sister, Ethel Severinghaus; sisters-in-law, Margaret Garrah, Barbara Thompson, Nina Colyer and Doris Long; brothers-in-law, Carl Colyer, Bill Gravelin, Sr., Doug Cooke, Bill Severinghaus and Jim Garrah; nephews, David Gravelin and Phil Long.

Mabel chose to be cremated. Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 12, 2017 from 10:00 to 11:00 am in the Bookhout Funeral Home, 357 Main Street, Oneonta with a memorial service immediately following at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul Messner officiating. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Unadilla.
