At the age of 13, Maurice ran away and joined the carnival and traveled throughout the country. When he returned back to Vermont he joined the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. Maurice was a wonderful woodworker. He could take an old piece of wood and turn it into something beautiful. His family is blessed with many of his carvings. He was an avid reader of western books. He could sit down in the chair in the morning with a book and have it finished by the evening. In his younger years he enjoyed fishing and hunting. When his daughter, Mary was growing up she would compete in many horse competitions and Maurice was always by her side. Her parents were her best friends, a time that she will always cherish. And he also enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
